Vesterø is a bathing area covering approximately 2 km along Kongevejen and south of Vesterø Harbour on the island of Læsø, Denmark. The beach is sandy with stones and has a sand bottom, with widths varying from 5 to 30 metres. Water depth reaches approximately 0.5 metres at 50 metres from shore and 1.5 metres at 75 metres from shore in the southern section. The water is clear with visibility exceeding 1 metre and contains very few or no algae. The beach at Kongevejen is particularly child-friendly due to shallow water depths.

Water

Saltwater coastal area approximately 2 km in length. Water depth approximately 0.5 metres at 50 metres from shore and 1.5 metres at 75 metres from shore in the southern section. Water clarity exceeds 1 metre visibility. Water current is weak to strong from varying directions, predominantly from the south.

Læsø Municipality, Denmark. Beach located at Kongevejen and south of Vesterø Harbour. Responsible authority: Læsø Kommune, Doktorvejen 2, 9940 Læsø.

Water Quality

Water classified as Excellent Quality at both Vesterø, Kongevejen and south of Vesterø Harbour. Classification based on data from 2019–2022. South of Vesterø Harbour maintained Excellent Quality throughout 2019–2022. Vesterø, Kongevejen achieved Excellent Quality in 2019–2020 and Good Quality in 2021–2022. No known direct pollution sources in the area. Wastewater treatment facility outlet located 600 metres northeast of the beach on the opposite side of the harbour. Emergency overflow from sewer pipe at the start of the southern harbour pier.

Risks

No blue-green algae present. Very few or no algae observed. Water depth conditions are generally variable due to tidal action, current, and weather conditions.
