Tapelių ežero II is a public bathing beach located on Tapelių lake in Vilnius, Lithuania. The beach is approximately 200 metres long with an average water depth of 1.3 metres and a maximum depth of 3.0 metres. The lake is surrounded by forest within the Tapelių landscape reserve, a nationally protected area. Water quality from 2020 to 2024 met excellent quality standards. The beach is used for recreation and is regularly cleaned of aquatic vegetation during the swimming season.

Water

Lake (Tapelių ežero). Average depth 1.3 metres, maximum depth 3.0 metres. Beach length approximately 200 metres. Substrate predominantly sand with stones in places. Semi-natural shoreline with sand, sparse vegetation, trees, and submerged aquatic vegetation. Annual precipitation in the basin 674 mm. Highest precipitation in August, lowest in September.

Location

Vilnius city, Lithuania. The bathing area is located within the Neries minor tributaries basin and the Nemunas river basin. Monitoring coordinates: X=54.7745, Y=25.4444.

Facilities

Two permanent piers (steps), two changing cabins, rescue point with first aid equipment, bicycle racks, food vendors, picnic tables, picnic tables adapted for disabled access, small library, outdoor exercise equipment, information signs. Three bio-toilets. No showers.

Season

Official monitoring period 2020–2024. Seasonal cleaning from aquatic vegetation conducted during the swimming season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification 2020–2024: Excellent. Monitoring conducted according to Directive 2006/7/EC. No phosphorus or nitrogen measurements were conducted; visual monitoring for cyanobacteria was performed. Cyanobacteria blooms were not observed. No systematic pollution sources identified in the impact zone.

Risks

Short-term pollution possible during heavy rainfall; contamination disappears within 1–2 days after rainfall ends. Possible momentary water contamination due to irresponsible human behaviour. Blue-green algae blooms not observed. Eutrophication impact is attributed to natural origin.
