Balsio (Žaliųjų ežerų) is a public bathing beach located in Vilnius, Lithuania. The beach features a natural sand shore approximately 215 metres long with an average water depth of 1.0 metre and maximum depth of 2.5 metres. The beach is situated in the Neris river sub-basin within the Nemunas river basin. Water quality from 2018–2024 consistently met excellent quality requirements according to EU Directive 2006/7/EB.

Three stationary piers, 2 beach volleyball courts, 1 basketball court, 1 children's play area, 1 ball throw field, 5 changing cabins, 17 beach loungers, drinking water fountain, bicycle racks, snack bars, picnic tables, picnic tables accessible to disabled persons, small library, showers (2 units), outdoor fitness equipment, information signs (beach map), rescue station with first aid equipment. Beach is accessible to disabled persons. Toilets: 3 portable units.

Monitoring season 2024. Bathing season typically aligns with official monitoring periods from May to September.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent from 2018–2024. Monitoring undertaken in accordance with EU Directive 2006/7/EB. Water body type 3. Ecological status good, meeting good ecological potential requirements. No cyanobacteria, macroalgae, or marine phytoplankton blooms detected. Blue-green algae monitoring conducted visually.

Risks

Short-term pollution possible during heavy rainfall; pollution disappears within 1–2 days after rain ends. No point source pollution, diffuse pollution, or upstream surface water bodies acting as pollution sources identified in the impact zone.
