Terra Estreita is a coastal bathing water located on a beach with restricted use on Tavira Island, situated within the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, Natura 2000, and RAMSAR protected sites. The beach features golden sand with an extensive sandy area and dunes with typical diversified flora. The beach length is 210 metres with a tidal range of 3.4 metres and mean wave height of 0.5 metres. The predominant wind direction is east to southeast.

Water Quality

Water quality classification in 2023 complies with Decreto-Lei 135/09 of 3 June. No pollution sources exist in the immediate vicinity. No days in the 2023 bathing season required bathing to be advised against or prohibited due to short-term pollution events. Microbiological contamination is unlikely, though it may seldom occur during severe storms with long-distance transport of pollutants.

Risks

Microbiological contamination may occur seldom during heavy storms at sea involving long-distance transport of pollutants. Macroalgae proliferation is frequent. Cyanobacteria and phytoplankton proliferation are unlikely.
