Location

Loano, Liguria, Italy. The competent authorities are the Municipality of Loano (Piazza Italia 2, tel 019675694) and the Coast Guard (Lungomare Matteotti n. 4/b, 17100, tel 019856666).

Private sea baths with related services and other accommodation facilities are present in the area.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). No coastal wastewater treatment plants, sewage systems, or Imhoff tanks are present in the area. Currently, no particular measures or specific monitoring are activated.

Risks

Cases of potentially toxic algal strains proliferation have been reported. A bloom occurred at the end of July 2010. The Ligurian Sea is not characterised by cyanobacterial blooms due to predominantly oligotrophic conditions.
