Traunsee is Austria's deepest lake at 191 metres, located on the northern edge of the Limestone Alps. It covers an area of 24.4 square kilometres. The lake is strongly flushed by the Traun river, which flows through it from south to north, resulting in lower summer water temperatures compared to other lakes. Turbidity, particularly in the southern part of the lake, results from suspended sediment or natural limestone precipitation.
