The Uphuser Meer is an inland lake located in the Riepster Hammrich northeast of Emden, approximately 5 km north of the Ems River. The water body was formed from the development of raised bog channels and originally had depths of 0.9 to 1.2 meters, but was deepened to 26 meters during the construction of the A31 motorway in the 1970s. Today it serves as an attractive recreational water body, with weekend houses and surrounding gardens occupying roughly two-thirds of the shoreline. The western shore is designated as a landscape protection area and is not accessible to the public.
