Natursee Großes Meer is the largest inland water body in East Frisia, a lowland moor lake located only a few kilometres from the North Sea. The northern part serves as a leisure and recreation area suitable for water sports, beginner water sports enthusiasts, anglers, and nature lovers. The southern part has been designated as a nature reserve since 1974. Motorboats are not permitted on the lake itself, but an extensive network of waterways surrounds the lake for motor boat users.
