Strib Nordstrand

Strib Nordstrand is a bathing beach located at the northern tip of Lillebælt in Middelfart Municipality. The beach extends approximately 200 metres east from a pier and is 15–20 metres wide, with sandy substrate and small stones. Strong currents are present, particularly around the pier and towards the east, where bathing is discouraged. The beach is a Blue Flag beach and is backed by 30–40 metres of dune vegetation. Three rescue stations are positioned along the beach.

Water

Lillebælt (Little Belt), a brackish water body with salinity just under 20 PSU. The bottom consists primarily of sand with stones at the beach edge. Depth increases relatively quickly in the northern and western directions. General strong currents occur, with observations indicating currents frequently towards the southwest or west.

Location

Strib Nordstrand is located at the northern point of Strib town in Middelfart Municipality. Access is by car via Ved Norden Bro or on foot via a path from Tjærepletten. A parking area is available.

Season

Bathing season monitoring involves collection of at least 10 water samples during the bathing season.

Water Quality

The beach is classified as EXCELLENT based on four years of measurements of enterococci and E. coli according to EU Bathing Water Directive rules. Potential faecal pollution sources include an overflow structure discharging directly to Lillebælt approximately 275 metres from the beach, and two overflow structures discharging via Røjlemose Hovedløb watercourse at distances of 0.5 and 1.5 kilometres. Overspills from these structures range from 380 to 7,800 cubic metres per year. Occasional exceedances have been linked to sailing activities in Lillebælt. Cyanobacteria blooms are considered low risk. No phytoplankton blooms were observed in the preceding five years. Seaweed washups are infrequent.

Risks

Strong currents are present around the pier and in the western direction. Towards the east, approximately 200 metres from the pier, very strong seaward currents occur intermittently and bathing is discouraged. At the lighthouse at the point, current conditions vary strongly and bathing is strongly discouraged.
