A bathing beach located in Torregrotta, Sicily, formed by sandy-gravelly sediments. The beach features very fine sand with a flat slope and is backed by breakwater rocks. The bathing area extends approximately 0.26 km and typically accommodates 1,000–2,000 swimmers. Water quality is classified as good.

Water

Coastal water body spanning from Capo Milazzo to Capo Rasocolmo. The seabed consists of alluvial deposits overlaid with sandy-gravelly sediments. Beach width is 50–60 metres. Water body area is 0.260 km.

Location

Torregrotta, Messina Province, Sicily. The beach is situated along via Livatino at the intersection with via Sicilia. Coordinates: 38.216160°N, 15.342500°E.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is good. The water body is located between torrente Saponara and fiumara Niceto. A wastewater treatment plant with submarine outfall discharge serves the area; this installation is under European infringement proceedings. Possible overflow discharges from lifting station overflow pipes and treatment plant are identified as pollution sources.

Risks

Constant erosive action affects the coastal area between corso Sicilia and torrente Fondachello. Potential overflow discharges of untreated wastewater from lifting station overflow pipes during equipment failure or repair. Electric equipment malfunction can cause untreated sewage release from overflow discharges. No cyanobacterial proliferation events have been reported. No harmful algal bloom cases have been recorded.
