Viserbella - La Turchia is a sandy beach located in the municipality of Rimini in the Emilia-Romagna region, extending approximately 800 metres. The area is a high-tourism zone with numerous hotels and beach establishments, and features a constant lifeguard service during the bathing season. The beach width varies between 60 and 100 metres, with medium bather attendance.

Water

Coastal marine water body in the central-southern area of the Rimini coast. Beach area extends approximately 800 metres with variable width of 60–100 metres. The area covers 0.817 km² and is classified as coastal marine waters on highly stable alluvial plains.

Location

Located in Viserbella, municipality of Rimini, Emilia-Romagna region, Italy. The beach is situated in a central-southern coastal area with high tourist infrastructure including 10 beach establishments.

Facilities

Ten beach establishments with first aid services. Facilities include toilets, disabled access bathrooms, hot showers, absence of architectural barriers, sports facilities, and food and beverage services. Lifeguards present during bathing season.

Official bathing season monitoring occurs during the bathing season; profile last updated May 2025 with next review scheduled for 2029.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2021–2024 reference years). Escherichia coli at 90th percentile: 144 CFU/100 ml; at 95th percentile: 239 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal enterococci at 90th percentile: 15 CFU/100 ml; at 95th percentile: 17 CFU/100 ml. An anomalous situation occurred on 26 July 2022 when Escherichia coli exceeded the legal limit; this event was officially declared anomalous by the European Commission and the affected data were replaced with results from the first retest on 27 July 2022.

Risks

Abundant rainfall could cause overflow of excess water flow from drainage outlets into bathing water. The Viserbella Fossa drainage basin in the vicinity may cause eutrophication phenomena. No sustained eutrophic phenomena from cyanobacteria have been reported in the last 4 years. No phytoplankton blooms (Raphidophyceae Fibrocapsa japonica) or macroalgae proliferation events have been reported for 2020–2023.
