A sandy beach in Silvi Marina, Abruzzo, with over 99% sand composition and medium granulometry. The beach has a gentle slope of approximately 4–5% and a mean width of about 70 metres. The area behind the beach is occupied by urban settlements and tourism-related structures. The bathing zone is classified as Excellent water quality.

Water

Coastal marine water. Sandy beach with mean width of 70 metres and slope of 4–5%. Sand composition exceeds 99% with medium granulometry (D50 = 0.221 mm).

Location

Silvi Marina, Teramo Province, Abruzzo region. The beach is part of the southern shoreline area (ARENILE SUD) which extends 3200 metres and contains 34 beach concessions. The broader coastline extends approximately 7 kilometres.

Facilities

Each bathing facility has first-aid assistance services and sanitary facilities. Catering points and sports structures including beach volleyball courts are present. Pet access is regulated under regional law L.R. n. 19/07-04-2014.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent. River mouths are identified as pollution sources. Wastewater from public sewerage is treated at a consortium treatment plant in Montesilvano (PE) managed by ACA Spa. A separate treatment facility using activated sludge is present in Vallescura for the Silvi Alta area and is regularly authorised and monitored. No cyanobacteria blooms have been recorded in the waters off the Abruzzo coast.

Risks

River mouths identified as pollution sources. Short-duration pollution events are under study with a modelling approach. No anomalous events have been recorded. Sparse algal blooms occur in summer, with past reports of dinoflagellate blooms with scarce or absent toxic species.
