A coastal bathing area located 200 metres north of the Torrente Acquachiara mouth in Casalbordino, Abruzzo. The northern section features a predominantly pebbly and rocky beach with an elevated ridge and remnants of dune vegetation. The southern section has a predominantly sandy beach. The area attracts 1,500 to 2,000 swimmers concentrated in the southern zone and is classified as Excellent water quality.

Water

Coastal water body (Acque Costiere) with medium stability characteristics. Area extends 1.544 square kilometres. The northern beach section has a width of 4–6 metres; the southern section has a width of 30–40 metres following regional soft replenishment intervention in 2010. Hydrographic basin: Torrente Acquachiara.

Location

Casalbordino, Province of Chieti, Abruzzo region. Located along the coastal road (lungomare), with railway station access, parking facilities, and a residential and tourist residential area nearby.

Facilities

Three bathing establishments with fixed restaurant structures, three additional bathing establishments providing shade, hotel and restaurant facilities, summer colony, railway station, coastal road access, and parking. Regional ordinance prohibits animal access to the bathing area.

Water Quality

Classified as EXCELLENT. The marine waters in the Abruzzo coastal area have not shown characteristic cyanobacterial blooms. No events of macroalgae, phytoplankton, or potentially toxic species proliferation have been recorded. Past years showed sparse algal blooms in summer with occasional dinoflagellate blooms of low or absent toxicity.
