A fine sand beach with a gentle 3% slope, protected by artificial rocky outcrops. The distance between mean low water and high water (safe water limit) is approximately 80 metres. Astronomical tide ranges from 30 to 50 centimetres. The beach has a mean width of 30 metres and is surrounded by dense urban development with a railway line passing through the area.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E. The area is served by a mixed public sewerage system connected to a treatment plant with a lift station and overflows. The treatment plant is a biological activated sludge facility with design capacity of 35,000 inhabitant equivalents, located at C.da S. Leonardo, serving Grottammare municipality. The receiving water body is the Tesino river. COD, BOD5, and suspended solids parameters were consistently compliant in 2006 and 2007. Microbiological controls in 2008, 2009, and 2010 were compliant.

Risks

Identified pollution sources include accidental failures and overflows from lift stations at the seafront roundabout. No cyanobacterial proliferation reported. No macroalgae, phytoplankton, or potentially toxic species proliferation reported.
