A fine sandy beach located in San Benedetto del Tronto in the Marche region, with a median slope of 3% extending approximately 80 metres from the waterline at mean low tide to the high water mark. The beach is protected by artificial rocky outcrops and is surrounded by a natural park area. Astronomical tides range from 30 to 50 centimetres.

Location

San Benedetto del Tronto, Ascoli Piceno province, Marche region. The bathing water is located 200 metres south of the Bonifica Surgela drainage channel within the Porto di San Benedetto del Tronto area.

Water Quality

Classification E. Water is served by mixed public sewerage connected to a treatment plant located in Porto d'Ascoli via Brodolini, 8. The plant has a design capacity of 180,000 population equivalents and current capacity of 100,000 population equivalents. Industrial effluent equivalent to 40,000 population equivalents is also conveyed. COD, BOD5, and suspended solids parameters were compliant in 2006 and 2007. Microbiological controls in 2008, 2009, and 2010 were compliant.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events from accidental malfunctions and overflow at three identified pump stations. In August 2009, a bloom of Fibrocapsa japonica was detected in the vicinity at 2,436,000 cells per litre, though no health risk situation was reported.
