A bathing beach located 450 meters south of the Potenza River mouth in Porto Recanati. The beach features fine calcareous gravel with a 3% slope on the exposed beach and 8% on the submerged beach. The distance between mean low water and high water (safe water limit) is 4 meters, with astronomical tides ranging from 30 to 50 centimeters. The surrounding area consists of the riparian zone of the Potenza River.

Location

Porto Recanati, Macerata Province, Marche Region, Italy. The beach is 450 meters south of the Potenza River mouth. Beach width is 30 meters. Access to animals is not permitted according to Municipal Regulation approved by municipal council decree n. 42/2018.

Bathing facilities with restaurants and camping are present.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for recent years: 2015 Poor (E. coli 90th percentile 637.0 CFU/100mL, Enterococci 296.8 CFU/100mL); 2016 Poor (E. coli 876.2, Enterococci 357.5); 2017 Poor (E. coli 508.7, Enterococci 234.8); 2018 Sufficient (E. coli 293.6, Enterococci 150.3). Identified pollution sources: urban wastewater and Potenza River mouth. The area is served by combined public sewerage connected to a treatment plant.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events from the Potenza River mouth and urban wastewater are potential sources of contamination. No cyanobacteria proliferation was evaluated. No algal bloom or phytoplankton proliferation was detected during the sampling period.
