A fine gravel beach of calcareous origin located 500 metres south of the Musone River mouth near Porto Recanati. The beach has a 3% slope on dry sand and 8% on submerged sand, with a width of 30 metres. The surrounding area comprises urban settlements, tourist facilities, and the riparian zone of the Musone River. Astronomical tide ranges from 30 to 50 centimetres.

Coastal marine water body designated as Numana_Porto Recanati. Beach area extends 0.70304 square kilometres. Distance between mean low-high water and safe water limit is 4 metres.

Location

Porto Recanati, Macerata Province, Marche Region. Beach access is not permitted according to Municipal Regulation approved by Municipal Council decree n. 42/2018. The competent authority is located at corso Matteotti 230, Porto Recanati, telephone 071 759971.

Water Quality

Water quality classification history: 2015 Sufficient (E. coli 90th percentile 465.4 CFU/100ml, intestinal enterococci 171.3); 2016 Poor (E. coli 630.1, enterococci 215.0); 2017 Poor (E. coli 564.0, enterococci 187.1); 2018 Sufficient (E. coli 301.9, enterococci 103.7). Investigations at the Musone River mouth have shown E. coli concentrations exceeding 20,000 CFU/100ml. Pollution sources include urban wastewater and discharge from the Musone River.

Risks

Elevated E. coli concentrations from the Musone River, particularly during heavy rainfall events and with northerly winds. Sand deposits at the river mouth impede dispersal of contaminated water offshore. No cyanobacterial proliferation reported. No macroalgal or phytoplankton blooms detected during sampling periods. No harmful algal events recorded in the past four years.
