Nord Foce Musone is a beach in Numana, Ancona, with fine calcareous gravel substrate. The beach has a length of 300 metres and width of 50 metres. The surrounding area consists of urban settlements, tourist facilities, and the riparian zone of the Musone River mouth. Animals are permitted on the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Poor (Classe Scarsa) for years 2015–2018. 2015: E. coli 90th percentile 1458.3 CFU/100 ml, intestinal enterococci 992.4 CFU/100 ml. 2016: E. coli 1264.5, enterococci 853.5. 2017: E. coli 1104.8, enterococci 542.5. 2018: E. coli 897.1, enterococci 344.8. Pollution sources identified: wastewater treatment plants serving multiple municipalities (Camerano, Ancona Sud districts, Osimo, Castelfidardo, Numana, Sirolo) with combined sewer systems. Overflow discharges occur during heavy rainfall into the Aspio stream and Musone River.

Risks

Combined sewer overflows during intense rainfall discharge untreated wastewater into the Aspio stream and Musone River, affecting beach water quality. High microbial contamination levels from faecal indicator bacteria.
