This bathing area is located 75 m north of the San Biagio stream mouth in Rocca San Giovanni, Abruzzo. The beach is predominantly composed of pebbles with minimal sandy sections and extends approximately 10 m in width. A restaurant is situated close to the beach, and a wooden platform (trabocco) can be accessed from the shore, positioned about 50 m from the waterline. The bathing water has been classified as Excellent quality.

Coastal waters in the Adriatic Sea. The bathing area extends 0.200 km. The water body is classified as coastal waters with medium stability (Terrazzi - Media Stabilità -B2).

Location

Rocca San Giovanni, Province of Chieti, Abruzzo region. The beach is located 75 m north of the San Biagio stream mouth along the Adriatic coast. Parking is available at the beach facility.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. No specific monitoring measures are currently activated. River mouths have been identified as a source of potential pollution impact.

Risks

Microalgal blooms of dinoflagellates, particularly Ostreopsis ovata, have occurred. In September 2018, Ostreopsis ovata concentrations exceeded one million cells per litre in this area, with peak levels on 10 September. This species poses an inhalation risk through aerosol exposure when present on the beach. Some cases of respiratory difficulty and dyspnea have been reported. A wastewater lifting pump serving the Cavalluccio locality discharge pipe is located near the beach.
