Small pebble beach sections nestled between rocky outcrops accessible by small coves reached via a former dismantled railway track. The beach is located in the Abruzzo region along the Adriatic coast. The bathing water is classified as Excellent quality.

Coastal water body. Beach extension area: 0.5 km. Average beach width approximately 10 m. Classified as coastal waters with medium stability characteristics.

Location

Rocca San Giovanni, Chieti Province, Abruzzo region. Access via former railway track. The State Road SS16 Adriatica passes approximately 100 m from the beach at approximately 20 m above sea level.

Facilities

No infrastructure or services are present directly at the beach. Services are located along the SS16 Adriatica approximately 100 m away. Animal access is prohibited by regional ordinance.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. No sewage outfalls or offshore discharges are present. A sewage network serving the Vallevò locality with 4 pumping stations operates along the SS16 Adriatica, directing treated wastewater to a treatment plant located between the SS16 and the former railway track.

Risks

Microalgae proliferation events have occurred, specifically dinoflagellate blooms including Ostreopsis ovata, recognized as potentially toxic species. In September 2018, a significant bloom reached over one million cells per litre in the area. The microscopic alga Ostreopsis ovata can have toxic effects through inhalation, presenting a health risk from aerosol inhalation when present on the beach. Some cases of respiratory difficulties and dyspnoea have been reported.
