Aguda is an urban beach with sandy morphology and an extensive sand area. It encompasses the Areia Branca and Aguda concessions and is located within the Douro river basin.

June 14 to September 14, 2025.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/09 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). Sampling frequency is every 3 weeks. No days of bathing prohibition or advisory occurred due to short-term pollution in the 2024 bathing season. Potential microbiological pollution sources include faecal contamination from the local sewerage network.

Risks

Short-term pollution unlikely but possible due to malfunction in the wastewater pumping station with discharge of untreated effluent. Cyanobacteria have moderate proliferation potential with historical occurrence of blooms. Macroalgae have low proliferation potential with no history of occurrence. Phytoplankton have low proliferation potential with no history of occurrence.
