Miramar is an urban beach located in Vila Nova de Gaia with an extensive sand strip and rocky outcrops bordered by a line of dunes. The beach encompasses two concessions: Miramar Norte and Miramar Sul. It is situated in the Douro River basin.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored every 3 weeks. No days of bathing prohibition or advisory due to short-term pollution events occurred in the 2024 bathing season.

Risks

Short-term pollution is unlikely but may occur due to excessive surface flow from the drainage network during rainfall, which can introduce microbiological load, or from occasional malfunctions in the wastewater lifting station. Faecal contamination may originate from the local sanitation network and the Ribeira de Espírito Santo tributary. Cyanobacteria has a moderate proliferation potential with historical occurrence of blooms. Macroalgae and phytoplankton have low proliferation potential with no historical records.
