Agudela is a non-urban beach with an extensive sandy strip and rocky outcrops, bordered by a line of dunes. The beach encompasses the Pedras da Agudela and Agudela concessions. It is located in the Leça river basin in the municipality of Matosinhos.

Season

Official bathing season 2025 runs from June 14th to September 14th.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/2009 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). Monitoring occurs every 3 weeks. No days of bathing being advised against or prohibited due to short-term pollution were recorded in the 2024 bathing season. Potential microbiological pollution sources include faecal contamination from the local rainwater drainage network and the Agudela tributary.

Risks

Short-term pollution is unlikely but may occur due to excessive tributary flow during rainfall events, causing entrainment of microbiological load. Contamination may also result from the local rainwater network. Cyanobacteria proliferation potential is moderate with a history of bloom occurrences. Macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation potential is low with no history of occurrences.
