Pedras do Corgo is a non-urban beach with an extensive sand strip characterized by a line of dunes protected by wooden boardwalks. The bathing water is monitored under Portuguese water quality legislation. No bathing restrictions due to short-term pollution events were recorded during the 2024 bathing season.

Season

2025 bathing season: June 14 to September 14.

Water Quality

Water quality classification according to Decreto-Lei 135/2009 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). Sampling frequency is every 3 weeks. Potential faecal contamination from local wastewater and rainwater drainage networks and from the Onda river and ribeira da Certagem tributaries which empty near the bathing water. Short-term pollution is unlikely but may occur due to excessive surface flow of tributaries during rainfall or contamination of the local rainwater network. No days of bathing restrictions due to short-term pollution occurred during the 2024 bathing season.

Risks

Cyanobacteria: moderate potential for proliferation with a history of bloom occurrences. Macroalgae: low potential for proliferation with no history of occurrence. Phytoplankton: low potential for proliferation with no history of occurrence.
