Quebrada is a non-urban beach (Type II) located in Matosinhos, featuring an extensive sand strip with rocky outcrops and a sloping seabed in the bathing zone. The beach is monitored for bathing water quality under Portuguese legislation. Short-term pollution events are unlikely but may occur due to excessive surface flow from a tributary during heavy rainfall or from malfunctions in the local wastewater system.

June 14 to September 14, 2025.

Water Quality

Classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/2009 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). Sampling conducted every 3 weeks. No days in 2024 bathing season when bathing was advised against or prohibited due to short-term pollution. Potential sources of microbiological contamination include faecal contamination from the local rainwater drainage network and the Ribeira da Agudela tributary, which empties near the bathing water.

Risks

Short-term pollution unlikely but possible due to excessive surface flow of tributary during rainfall, causing microbiological load entrainment. May also occur from discharge of untreated effluents due to malfunction of the wastewater pumping station and contamination of the local rainwater network. Cyanobacteria have moderate potential for proliferation with a history of blooms. Macroalgae and phytoplankton have low proliferation potential with no history of occurrence.
