Ålbæk Strand

Ålbæk Strand is a child-friendly bathing beach located in the southern end of Kås Bredning, approximately 150 meters southwest of Limfjords Camping og Vandland. The beach extends about 800 meters toward the northeast and is 10–20 meters wide, consisting of sand with gravel and shells. The water is shallow, with a distance of 200–400 meters from the shore to a depth of 2 meters. The beach is classified as having excellent water quality, the highest classification possible under Danish bathing water regulations.

Water

Brackish water body (Kås Bredning in Limfjorden) with sandy bottom containing stones and scattered seaweed vegetation. Water temperature varies between 10 °C and 22 °C during the bathing season. The dominant current flows from south to north. Salinity is typically high.

Location

Ålbæk Strand is located in the southern part of Kås Bredning near Limfjords Camping og Vandland in the municipality of Skive. The beach is accessed via Ålbæk Strandvej, which runs parallel to the beach between the campsite and the shore. Good parking is available. Facilities

Bathing pier, tables and benches, trash bins, lifeguard station and rescue ring near the parking area, disabled access ramp, toilet, outdoor shower at the toilet building, and the Limfjords Camping og Vandland complex is located at the beach. Blue flag awarded.

Monitoring and classification based on data from the bathing season; water temperature ranges from 10 °C to 22 °C.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on E. coli and enterococcus data from 2016–2019. Analysis of bathing water data over the past 5 years shows very stable conditions and low bacterial levels.

Risks

Risk of algal blooms (particularly other microscopic algae species), large accumulations of seaweed and eelgrass, invasive Pacific oysters, and pollen accumulation. Risk of low oxygen levels is low due to shallow water depth and current conditions. Risk of chemical pollution from shipping accidents is low. Risk of blue-green algae is very low due to high salinity. Risk of fecal contamination is low. Dogs must be kept on a leash from 1 April to 30 September.
