Gyldendal Strand is a shallow, child-friendly bathing beach located in the northeastern end of Venø Bay near the summer house area of Vester Hærup. The beach extends approximately 500 meters from the southern pier at Gyldendal Harbour towards the southeast, is 10–15 meters wide, and consists mainly of sand with some areas of larger stones. The water has been classified as excellent quality, the highest classification possible for bathing water. Surface water currents at the beach generally flow from southeast to northwest, and water temperature varies between 10 °C and 22 °C during the bathing season.

Water

Seawater body in Venø Bay. The beach is shallow and child-friendly. Water depth varies, with Pacific oysters present in depths less than 2 metres. Salinity is relatively high due to influence from Nissum Bredning and Vesterhavet. Water temperature ranges from 10 °C to 22 °C during the bathing season.

Location

Located near Vester Hærup in Skive Municipality, accessed via Vester Hærup Strandvej near Gyldendal Harbour or from Contortavej. Parking is available at both access points. GPS orientation point: Vester Hærup Strandvej 32, 7860 Spøttrup.

Facilities

Grills and restaurant at the harbour. Tables, benches, and waste bins at the harbour and near the bathing pier. Toilet at the harbour. A bathing pier is installed near Lyngvej during summer. Dogs must be kept on a leash from 1 April to 30 September.

Water Quality

Bathing water classified as excellent quality, the highest classification. Classification based on data from 2016–2019 for E. coli and enterococcus. Bathing water quality analysis from municipal monitoring over five years shows stable conditions and low bacterial levels. Risk of short-term fecal pollution is very low.

Risks

Risk of algal blooms, particularly of various microscopic algae species during the bathing season. Potential for seaweed wash-up and accumulation, particularly in the southern end with stone areas. Risk of blue-green algae blooms is very low due to high salinity. Pollen accumulation is a recurring phenomenon. Pacific oysters with sharp shells may be present on the seabed. Low risk of chemical pollution from ship accidents. Low risk of oxygen depletion. Potential for fecal pollution from pleasure boat toilet tank discharge.
