Hostrup Strand is a child-friendly beach located in the northeastern end of Venø Bay, stretching approximately 2.5 kilometres towards the southeast. The beach is 20–30 metres wide and consists of broad bands of larger stones at the top and water's edge with a sandy section in the middle. The water is shallow and the distance from the shore to 2 metres depth is 150–250 metres. The beach is classified as having excellent water quality, the highest classification possible under bathing water regulations.

Water

Saltwater beach in Venø Bay. The beach is 20–30 metres wide with larger stones at the upper and waterline sections and sandy areas in the middle. The shore distance to 2 metres depth is 150–250 metres. Water salinity is high due to influence from the North Sea via Nissum Bredning. Water temperature varies between 10 °C and 22 °C during the bathing season. The prevailing surface current direction is from southeast to northwest.

Location

Hostrup Strand is located in the northeastern end of Venø Bay near the summer house area of Øster Hærup, immediately south of Gyldendal Strand. The beach is accessed via Kystvejen, which runs parallel to the beach. Parking is available along Kystvejen at several locations and a public car park is accessible from Teglgårdsvej at the southern end of the beach. Facilities

Boat launch in the southern end of the beach, bathing bridge, wheelchair ramp, shelter and camping area, toilets, tables and benches at the car park and boat launch.

Season

Monitoring and swimming season is the bathing season, with water temperatures varying between 10 °C and 22 °C. Dogs must be kept on a lead from 1 April to 30 September.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent, the highest classification under bathing water regulations. Classification is based on data from 2016–2019 for E. coli and enterococci. Analysis of bathing water data from the municipality's monitoring over the past five years shows stable conditions and low bacterial levels.

Risks

Risk of algal blooms, including microscopic algae species capable of discolouration. High risk of Pacific oysters (an invasive species) on the beach and shallow water. Risk of pollen accumulations in spring and early summer. Low risk of faecal contamination, manure spills, blue-green algae, oxygen depletion, and chemical pollution. Low risk of large seaweed accumulation.
