Alnor Strandpark

Alnor Strandpark is a sand beach approximately 250 metres long and 10–15 metres wide located at Alnor, a southern district of Gråsten in Denmark. The beach features a bathing pier and is relatively shallow, with child-friendly depths. The beach is part of a 3-hectare park area that includes a playground and trail system. Water quality is classified as excellent based on four years of monitoring data for faecal indicator bacteria.

Water

Marine brackish water with salinity of 16–24 ‰. The beach is approximately 250 metres long and 10–15 metres wide with a sand bottom and scattered seagrass vegetation. Water depth of 0.5 metres is reached at approximately 7 metres from the shore, and 1 metre depth at approximately 30 metres. The dominant current direction from 2006–2019 data flows westward, typically following the coast.

Location

Alnor is a southern district of Gråsten, located along Rinkenæs Bay west of Egernsund. Access is via a path from Gl. Færgevej 64, where there is a parking area with information boards and toilets.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent. Monitoring conducted from 1 June to 15 September by laboratory analysis for E. coli and intestinal enterococci. Analysis results from the last four years show no exceedances of the limit value for faecal coliform bacteria. Wastewater is treated at HUK Treatment Plant in Gråsten. Potential sources of faecal contamination include misconnections and stormwater overflows during heavy rainfall, which would result in short-term pollution lasting typically up to three days.

Risks

Small risk of seaweed (macroalgae) washup, though this has not resulted in reduced bathing water quality. Very small risk of cyanobacteria blooms; none have been observed on this beach. No previous plant plankton blooms observed during the bathing season. Potential short-term faecal contamination from stormwater overflows during heavy rainfall, but currents rapidly disperse any contamination.
