Angeiras Norte is an urban beach located in Matosinhos with a small sand strip and rocky outcrops that is strongly eroded. The beach is classified as Type I and is situated in the Leça river basin.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/2009 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). Sampling frequency is every 2 weeks. Potential microbiological pollution sources include faecal contamination from the local wastewater drainage network and the Onda river tributary. No days of bathing prohibition or warning due to short-term pollution events occurred during the 2024 bathing season.

Risks

Short-term pollution is likely and may occur due to excessive flow of the tributary river during precipitation, entrainment of microbiological load, discharge of untreated effluents, or failure of the Labruge wastewater pumping station. Cyanobacteria have a moderate potential for proliferation with a history of bloom occurrences. Phytoplankton has a low proliferation potential with no history of occurrences. Macroalgae have a low proliferation potential with no history of occurrences.
