Labruge is a rural beach with an extensive sandy area bordered by rocky outcrops and a well-consolidated dune system. Located in the Ave river basin within Vila do Conde municipality, it offers a natural bathing environment. The beach is subject to fortnightly water quality sampling throughout the bathing season.

Season

2025 bathing season: June 14 to September 14. Sampling frequency: every 2 weeks.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/2009 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). No days of bathing being advised against or prohibited due to short-term pollution occurred during the 2024 bathing season. Potential microbiological pollution sources include faecal contamination, which may originate mainly from the Onda river.

Risks

Short-term pollution is unlikely but can occur during periods of heavy precipitation due to excessive flow of the Onda river (which flows south of the bathing water) carrying microbiological load, or in case of malfunction of the pumping station near the river. Potential for cyanobacteria proliferation is low. Macroalgae proliferation potential is moderate. Phytoplankton proliferation potential is low. An alert system has not yet been implemented; warning signs will be posted if pollution risk occurs.
