The bathing area at Lago di Scanno near Villalago is a small beach approximately 40 metres wide, composed primarily of gravel and grass with shrubs and surrounding vegetation. The beach is one of two small bathing areas on the lake, located within a region surrounded by urban settlements and tourist facilities connected to summer tourism. The lake's perimeter is shared between the municipalities of Villalago and Scanno.

Water

Lake of Scanno, a freshwater lake at an altitude of 900 metres above sea level. The bathing area extends over approximately 0.2 square kilometres.

Location

Villalago, province of L'Aquila, in the Abruzzo region. The beach is accessible via a cycling path approximately 3 kilometres long that connects directly to the town. A camping facility with fixed and mobile structures accommodating approximately 1000 places is located in the immediate vicinity.

Facilities

Refreshment kiosk with outdoor seating, first aid and assistance services, disabled access facilities, toilets, and cycling path access to the town.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. No pollution sources have been identified in the bathing water area. The lake is served by a sewage ring that flows to the Villalago treatment plant downstream of the basin.

Risks

Potential short-duration pollution events could occur from accidental malfunction of the Scanno treatment plant or increased water inflow to the treatment facility. No cyanobacterial blooms have been recorded in the past four years. No macroalgae, phytoplankton, or potentially toxic species proliferation events have occurred in the past four years.
