Colle Ciglio is a bathing area located on Lake Barrea, situated within the Abruzzo National Park in the Abruzzo region. The lake is managed by ENEL GREEN POWER S.p.A. as a dam reservoir. Only three beaches exist on the lake, all within Barrea municipality, and they are surrounded by regional and provincial roads. The area supports small tourist accommodation structures for summer tourism.

Location

Barrea municipality, L'Aquila province, Abruzzo region. The bathing area is located on Lake Barrea within the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: SUFFICIENT. No pollution sources have been identified. No cyanobacteria blooms have been detected. No macroalgae, phytoplankton, or potentially toxic species proliferation events have occurred.

Risks

Potential short-term pollution events could result from accidental malfunction of the Barrea treatment plant or from increased water inflow to the treatment facility. A sewage ring runs around the lake perimeter and discharges to the Barrea treatment plant downstream of the basin.
