Italy Lake 2 - Good

A public pebbly beach located near the former seat of the Omegna rowing club on Lake Orta. The beach is 57 metres wide and is designated as a lake bathing water. It has been classified as Good quality based on routine monitoring samples from 2020 to 2023.

Location

Omegna, Verbano Cusio Ossola Province, Piedmont Region. The beach is situated near the old headquarters of the Omegna rowing club. Parking information is not available.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Good. Based on 18 routine samples collected from 2020 to 2023. Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 398.7 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 754.6 MPN/100 ml. Enterococci 90th percentile: 108.9 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 198.0 MPN/100 ml. A stream in the vicinity may compromise water quality during heavy rainfall. The area is characterised by a medium-high pressure class mainly due to high density of sewage pipes.

Risks

Intense precipitation can trigger overflow structures and accidental failures of pumping systems, leading to untreated wastewater discharge into the lake. A nearby stream may compromise bathing water quality during heavy rainfall. Inadequate management of the sewage network is identified as a potential pollution source. No cyanobacterial blooms or macroalgae proliferation events have been recorded in the past four years.
