Bagni Nautilus is a bathing area located in Varazze on the Ligurian coast. The shoreline is variable, featuring wide beaches to the west and rocky cliffs to the east. The area is classified as excellent for water quality based on 2008–2011 monitoring data. The zone is relatively flat to the west and hilly to the east with rapid degradation toward the sea.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent (2008–2011 monitoring period). No coastal wastewater treatment plants, Imhoff tanks, or discharge pipes are present. No specific monitoring measures are currently activated.

Risks

Potentially toxic algal strains detected. Threshold exceedances recorded in July and August of 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 in both water and macroalgae samples. The Ligurian Sea is not characterised by cyanobacterial blooms due to prevailing oligotrophic conditions.
