Biggesee Waldenburger Bucht

Biggetalsperre is an artificial reservoir in the Waldenburger Bucht area. The bathing site has approximately 400 metres of beach or shoreline. Water temperature ranges from 16 to 23 degrees Celsius with an average of 19 degrees. Water transparency varies between 2 and 7 metres. The water body is mesotrophic with a water exchange time exceeding 30 days.

Water

Artificial reservoir (Talsperre) with a surface area of approximately 800 hectares. Mean depth of 25 metres, maximum depth of 55 metres. Catchment area between 100 and 1000 square kilometres. Water level fluctuates by up to 15 metres. Substrate is sandy and rocky. The water body is stratified with a natural shoreline structure.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent for 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. pH values range from 7.4 to 8.7 (average 8). No relevant pollution sources have been identified. Municipal treatment plants, septic tanks, stormwater systems, agricultural runoff, and other potential sources do not have a relevant influence on water quality.

Risks

No observed cyanobacterial blooms within the last four years. No danger of future cyanobacterial mass development. Low risk of future mass development of phytoplankton. No cercariae (duck fleas causing swimmer's dermatitis) present. Occasional bird activity occurs but without relevant impact. Medium fish stock is present.
