Bombegrunden Taarbæk

Bombegrunden is a bathing beach located in the southern part of Taarbæk on the Øresund coast, approximately 700 meters south of Taarbæk Søbadeanstalt. The beach is approximately 40 meters long with a 2-meter-wide sandy beach in front of a concrete wall. The seabed consists of sand with areas of gravel and stone. The beach is child-friendly with shallow water, and the distance from shore to 2 meters depth is approximately 50 meters.

Water

Øresund is a narrow strait affected by water masses from the fresher Baltic Sea and the saltier Kattegat. Water in areas of Øresund with depths less than 15-20 meters is relatively brackish (5-18 ppt), while deeper areas have higher salinity (over 30 ppt). Surface currents flow northward approximately 60% of the time, with the saline bottom current flowing southward approximately 70% of the time. Water temperature varies between approximately 10°C and 20°C. The seabed at Bombegrunden consists of sand with areas of gravel and stone.

Location

Taarbæk Strandvej 40, 2930 Klampenborg, Denmark. The beach is located in the southern part of Taarbæk on the Øresund coast. More than 100 parking spaces are available along Taarbæk Strandvej in front of Bombegrunden. Parking is limited to 2 hours.

Facilities

Toilet building with women's, men's, and disabled toilets (closed in winter). Outdoor showers. Tables and benches. Trash bins. Grilling facilities. Dogs must be kept on a leash on the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is 'good', which is the second-best quality classification for bathing water.

Risks

Possible short-term pollution sources include wastewater discharge from combined sewer systems, emptying of toilet tanks from pleasure boats, and wastewater discharges. Cyanobacteria blooms occur annually during warm late summers (August–September) with stagnant water, particularly during periods of high water inflow from the Baltic Sea. Risk of stinging jellyfish (sea nettles) exists during the bathing season, particularly during offshore wind periods when bottom water is pushed toward the coast. Risk of stonefish in shallow water during summer. Risk of seaweed and eelgrass accumulation. Risk of oxygen depletion in deeper parts of Øresund. Risk of chemical pollution from shipping incidents. Risk of pine pollen in spring and early summer.
