Skovshoved Syd is a bathing area opened in 2020 located in Gentofte Municipality south of Skovshoved Harbour on the northern Øresund coast. The bathing area is based on a bathing bridge, as there is no natural beach. The seabed consists of fine sand, and at approximately 35 meters from the shore, the water reaches a depth of 150 centimeters. Water temperature during the bathing season varies between approximately 10 and 20 degrees Celsius.

Water

Øresund is a narrow sea area. The upper part of the water column is characterized by northward current directions from the Baltic Sea, while currents from the Kattegat are typically found in the deeper part. Current speeds are generally low. Tidal differences are less than 20 centimeters. Salinity typically varies between 8 and 22 parts per thousand.

Location

Located in Gentofte Municipality at Skovshoved Havn, 2920 Charlottenlund, south of Skovshoved Harbour on the northern Øresund coast. Parking is available at Skovshoved Harbour. Strandvejen is nearby with public transport access. Approximately 800 meters from Ordrup Station.

Monitoring season from 1 June to 15 September.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent based on data from 2020–2022 and first classified in 2022. Classification is determined based on bacterial content from mandatory sampling over the preceding year and three prior years.

Risks

Primary risk from wastewater system overflows containing coliform bacteria, particularly during heavy rainfall. One overflow (U6) is located approximately 150 meters south of the bathing bridge and releases statistically less than once per year. Risk of blue-green algae blooms is generally low but can occur in July–August during periods of high pressure and outflow from the Baltic Sea. Risk of seaweed and macroalgae washup during bathing season. Portuguese man o'war jellyfish commonly occur in summer. Weever fish with venomous spines may cause pain if physical contact occurs. Occasional pollen on water surface. Chemical contamination can occur from accidents such as oil spills or from ships. Accidental sewer system damage is rare.
