Skovshoved Havbad is a bathing facility opened in 2018 located north of Skovshoved Harbour on the Öresund coast north of Copenhagen in Gentofte Municipality. The facility is based on bathing piers rather than a traditional beach, with green areas immediately west of the piers. The bathing season runs from 1 June to 15 September.

Water

Öresund strait. The seabed consists of fine sand. Water depth is approximately 150 centimetres at 35 metres from the shore. Current speeds are generally low. Salinity typically varies between 8 and 22 parts per thousand. Bathing season water temperature varies between approximately 10–20 degrees Celsius. Tidal range is less than 20 centimetres.

Location

Skovshoved Havn, 2920 Charlottenlund, north of Copenhagen in Gentofte Municipality. Located approximately 800 metres from Ordrup Station. Parking is available at Skovshoved Havn nearby. Public transport is accessible via Strandvejen.

Facilities

One bathing pier complex, ice cream kiosk, toilets, restaurants, pleasure boat harbour.

Season

1 June to 15 September. Water quality monitoring occurs during this period.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Good as of 2022 based on data from 2019–2022. Annual classifications: 2019 Satisfactory, 2020 Good, 2021 Good, 2022 Good. The water did not achieve Excellent classification because it was temporarily affected by a local sewage pipeline break in 2019. Water quality is monitored during the bathing season (1 June to 15 September).

Risks

Coliform bacteria from sewage system overflows, particularly during heavy rain. Two nearest overflows (U4 and U5a) discharge statistically less than once per year. Additional overflows from nearby municipalities may affect water quality depending on weather and current conditions. Small risk of cyanobacteria blooms, particularly in July–August during high pressure and outflow from the Baltic Sea. Risk of algae and seaweed washup during bathing season. Periodic pollen on water surface. Firefishes common in summer; contact causes painful toxin release but not directly dangerous. Flounder present with venomous spines; stings can cause fever, nausea, headache, dizziness, and in severe cases cramps and breathing difficulties, though incidents with swimmers are very rare. Chemical pollution possible from shipping accidents but no nearby old landfills.
