Bruchertalsperre is a reservoir designated as a bathing area since 2011. It is classified as a significantly modified water body with a rocky substrate and natural-like shore structure. The bathing area features a 100-metre beach section and has been rated as excellent water quality for four consecutive years (2019–2022). The water body maintains mesotrophic nutrient conditions with good transparency.

Water

A reservoir (Talsperre) with an area of 46 hectares. Maximum water depth is 20.1 metres. Water transparency reaches 4.3 metres. Water temperature ranges from 11.2 °C to 24.0 °C (mean 17.6 °C). pH ranges from 7.5 to 8.6 (mean 8.0). Conductivity ranges from 118 to 130 µS/cm (mean 125). The water body is stratified with a water exchange time exceeding 30 days. Catchment area is very small (less than 10 km²). Water level fluctuations range from 2.5 to 5.6 metres (mean 3.6 metres).

Location

The bathing area is located at the Campingplatz (campground) at Bruchertalsperre. The water sampling point is at UTM coordinates E: 398787 N: 5659312. The reservoir is at an elevation above 200 metres. Nearest administrative centre is Gummersbach.

Water Quality

Water quality has been classified as excellent for four consecutive years (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022). The bathing water is mesotrophic with no known microbiological, chemical, construction debris, or equipment contamination in sediments. No pollution sources are identified that negatively affect water quality.

Risks

The danger of cyanobacteria mass development is very low with no cyanobacterial blooms observed in the past four years. The risk of macroalgae (filamentous algae) and phytoplankton mass development is very low.
