Restaurant Kattegat is a bathing beach located on the north side of Sjællands Odde in Denmark. The beach is approximately 120 metres long and consists of a stony shore about 13 metres wide. The water is brackish, a mixture of salt and fresh water. The bathing water has been classified as excellent quality based on data from 2017–2021.

Water

Brackish water (mixture of salt and fresh water). The beach extends approximately 120 metres with a stony shore 13 metres wide. Water depth measurements: approximately 10 metres to reach 0.5 metres depth, 14 metres to reach 1 metre depth, and 40 metres to reach 2 metres depth. Current direction predominantly from the west.

Location

Located near the T-junction of Fællesskovvej and Oddenvej in Odsherred Kommune. Parking is available at the junction. The beach is situated in a nature-protected area with summer houses in the surrounding land.

Facilities

Waste bins and waste sorting facilities are available. Information boards display water quality classification, beach description, and references to additional information.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent (based on 2017–2021 data). Two registered discharge outlets are located nearby: one approximately 700 metres east and one approximately 1 kilometre west of the bathing site, both with unknown water quality. The beach is occasionally subject to slight wastewater impact. During summer, contamination duration is typically short (1–3 days depending on weather, current, and wind conditions).

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria is low. Risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton growth is moderate. Swimming is not recommended if water is unclear and feet cannot be seen when water reaches knee level. Children should not play or bathe near washed-up algae due to potential toxins and bacteria. Glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur.
