Camping Sasso is a public bathing beach on Lake Maggiore in the Piedmont region, located near a sailing centre. The beach is pebbly with a gentle slope toward the shoreline and measures 88 metres in width. A bar, services, and shower facilities are available on site. Water quality is classified as good based on monitoring data from 2020–2023.

Lake Maggiore, a lake in northern Italy. The bathing area extends 0.088 km² at an altitude of 197 metres above sea level.

Location

Verbania, Verbano Cusio Ossola Province, Piedmont region. The beach is situated near a sailing centre and is identified by a large rock formation from which it takes its name.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Good. Based on 18 routine samples from 2020–2023. Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 116.1 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 216.2 MPN/100 ml. Enterococci 90th percentile: 145.0 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 251.7 MPN/100 ml. A wastewater treatment plant operates 3 km south of the monitoring point. The area is classified as having high pressure due to an extensive sewage network and high building density.

Risks

Intense precipitation can trigger overflow structures and release untreated effluent into the lake. Accidental failures of pumping systems may cause untreated wastewater discharge. Vessels may release mineral oils and fuel. No cyanobacteria monitoring is conducted periodically; no toxic effects on bathers or aquatic environments have been recorded.
