Marine bathing waters off Nice, extending to 300 metres from the municipal shoreline.

Location

Nice, France. Monitoring covers 26 sampling sites distributed between La Lanterne and Coco Beach.

Season

1 June to 30 September 2024.

Water Quality

Monitoring programme 2024: Bacteriological testing of Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Good quality threshold: Enterococci ≤370/100ml and E. coli ≤1000/100ml. Testing is performed by laboratory CARSO-LSEHL. Weekly sampling with additional pre-season sampling between 10-20 May. Results are known minimum 36 hours after sampling. Counter-analysis and network investigation procedures are implemented for non-compliant results; beach closure is ordered if pollution is confirmed.

Risks

Pathogenic germs from swimmers, sewerage and stormwater networks, terrestrial sources from watercourses. Risk of temporary discharges from sanitation networks during heavy rain or system failure. Mention of ostreopsis ovata algae proliferation. Hydrocarbon pollution from marine activities.
