Coastal Mediterranean waters off Nice. Monitoring sites span approximately 8 kilometers of coastline from La Lanterne to Coco Beach.

Location

Nice, France. Monitoring covers 26 sampling sites distributed between La Lanterne and Coco Beach. Municipal jurisdiction extends 300 meters from the shoreline.

Facilities

Daily visual surveillance of water conditions. Daily floating debris collection by municipal cleaning boats. Municipal agents conduct routine water surveillance as part of their duties.

Season

1 June to 30 September 2024. Regulatory bacteriological monitoring conducted weekly throughout this period, with additional pre-season sampling between 10 and 20 May.

Water Quality

Water quality classified by bacteriological thresholds: Enterococcus intestinalis threshold 370/100ml and Escherichia coli threshold 1000/100ml indicate good water quality. Weekly sampling during the 2024 bathing season (1 June to 30 September) plus pre-season sampling (10–20 May). Results interpreted within 36 hours minimum. Non-compliance triggers counter-analysis and beach closure if confirmed.

Risks

Pathogenic microorganisms from swimmers, sewerage networks, stormwater systems, and watercourse inputs. Potential bacteriological pollution from insufficient sewerage infrastructure or system overload during rainfall. Ostreopsis ovata algal proliferation identified as a hazard. Risk of hydrocarbon pollution from industrial discharge or station failures.
