The park stretches approximately 650 meters with an area of about 13 hectares, featuring fine sand beaches and grassy areas with large trees. Water

Øresund strait water. Fine sand bottom at approximately 150 centimeters depth 50 meters from shore. Salinity typically ranges between 8 and 22 parts per thousand. Water temperature during bathing season varies between approximately 10 to 20 degrees Celsius. Current speeds are generally low, with weak tidal variation of less than 20 centimeters difference between high and low water.

Northern Charlottenlund on the Øresund coast, north of Copenhagen. Address: Ved Strandvejen 148, 2920 Charlottenlund. Parking available in marked spaces along Strandvejen and in dedicated parking areas at the southern and northern ends of the park. Public transport accessible via Strandvejen.

Official monitoring period: 1 June to 15 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent in 2022, based on data from 2019–2022. Consistent Excellent rating from 2018 to 2022. Primary pollution source is sewage system overflows containing coliform bacteria during heavy rainfall. Nearest overflows are U9a (south of beach, discharges statistically less than once annually) and U8 (north of beach, discharges statistically six times annually). Distant offshore overflow U9b located 240 meters from shore.

Risks

Sewage system overflows from heavy rainfall containing coliform bacteria. Risk of blue-green algae blooms in July–August, particularly during high-pressure weather and outflow from the Baltic Sea. Potential seaweed, macroalgae, and eelgrass washup during bathing season. Occasional pollen on water surface. Sea urchins (fire urchin/brandmand) common in summer, causing painful contact but not typically dangerous. Weever fish (fjæsing) present with venomous spines; stings rare among swimmers but can cause fever, nausea, headache, and dizziness. Risk of chemical spills from ships or accidents. Rare incidents from sewage system failures or pipe breaks.
