Svanemøllestranden

Svanemøllestranden is a sandy beach established in 2010, covering approximately 4,000 square metres in Svanemøllebugten on the border between Copenhagen and Gentofte municipalities. The beach has variable water depth and salt water. Water currents are weak to strong, predominantly from northern and southern directions. The beach is open year-round, with lifeguards present during daytime hours in the summer season.

Location

Facilities

Lifeguards present during daytime hours in summer season. Disabled access including accessible parking, toilet, level-free access, and a pier with wheelchair-friendly surface. Paved path to sand. Strandpromenaden has tile surface with some uneven areas. Online warning system (Badevandsudsigten) with on-site lamp alerting to poor water quality. Mobile application available on Android and App Store.

Season

Open year-round. Lifeguards on duty during daytime hours in summer season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2020–2023). Risk of cyanobacteria assessed as low. Risk of phytoplankton growth and macroalgae assessed as low. Monitoring conducted minimum 20 times per year.

Risks

Risk of sewage overflow during heavy rainfall from overflow structures located approximately 70 metres and 160 metres north of the beach, potentially causing bacterial contamination. Occasional occurrences of glass shards, debris, and chemical pollution including oil spills.
