A sandy beach with fine sand and a gentle 3% slope, both above and below water, protected by artificial rocky outcrops. The beach has a medium width of 30 metres. The distance between mean low water and high water safety limits is approximately 80 metres, with astronomical tidal range of 30–50 cm. The surrounding area is urbanized with a railway line passing through.

Beach establishment with refreshment point and toilet facilities. Animals permitted.

Water Quality

Classification E. Wastewater treatment: mixed public sewer system connected to a treatment plant with lift station and overflow structures. Biological treatment plant with activated sludge on two lines, designed capacity 15,000 population equivalents, located in Via Taffetani, Cupra Marittima. Treatment plant showed good efficiency in 2006–2007 with COD, BOD5, and suspended solids always compliant. Microbiological controls in 2008, 2009, and 2010 were compliant.

Risks

Pollution sources identified: San Egidio torrent, lift stations (case popolari Cupra and viale Romita), vegetable processing plants (viale Ruzzi), and two hotel facilities (Hotel Cristal). Short-duration pollution events characterized as accidental faults and overflow from lift stations. No cyanobacterial proliferation reported. No macroalgae, phytoplankton, or potentially toxic species proliferation reported.
