Dråby Strand

Dråby Strand is a sandy and stony beach located along Kattegat near the village of Dråby in Syddjurs Municipality, Denmark. The beach stretches from a point south of Garmvej near the summer house area of Holme Strand to approximately 150 metres south of Dråby Camping. The beach is 20 to 30 metres wide with seaweed deposits along the waterline. The seabed consists of sand with smaller amounts of gravel and stones, and the water becomes quite deep rapidly, particularly in the northern section.

Water

Kattegat. The distance to 2 metres water depth is 50 to 150 metres. Salinity: approximately 25 ‰. Water temperature varies between 10 °C and 22 °C during the bathing season. Strong south-directed currents often occur.

Season

Official monitoring season: 1 May to 15 September. Ten water samples are collected and analysed during this period.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as 'Excellent'. Water quality is very stable with generally low bacterial levels. Monitoring results from municipal bathing water analyses show consistent good conditions.

Risks

Minor risk of temporary faecal pollution from occasional discharges from Holme Wastewater Treatment Plant during heavy rain. Very low risk of blue-green algae blooms due to high salinity. Low risk of harmful microscopic algae blooms. Low risk of large seaweed accumulation. Low risk of chemical pollution from ships. Recurring pollen accumulations can occur. Strong south-directed currents often present.
