Dragør Nordstrand is a bathing beach located immediately north of Dragør Harbour facing the Øresund strait. The beach extends approximately 1200 metres in length with a sandy area 3–5 metres wide, and a sandy bottom with larger stones. A bathing pier approximately 175 metres long extends from the northern part of the beach. The water is classified as Excellent quality.

Immediately north of Dragør Harbour, Dragør. Pedestrian access via Strandstien pathway along the beach, beginning at Dragør Harbour where parking is available.

Official bathing season: 1 June – 1 September. Water quality monitoring during this period.

Water Quality

Water is classified as Excellent quality. Classification is performed annually after the bathing season (1 June – 1 September) based on statistical analysis of bathing water investigations from the current year and three preceding years. Water samples are collected 10 times during the bathing season, exceeding the bathing water directive minimum requirement of 4 samples.

Risks

Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms can occur, particularly after rainfall followed by warm periods, causing unclear discoloured water, foam formation, and potential dead animals. Contact with toxins may cause headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea and diarrhoea; children and immunocompromised individuals are particularly vulnerable. Manual discharge of diluted wastewater from pump station P10 and treatment plant releases via temporary pipeline and permanent sea outfall (1100 metres from shore at 10 metres depth) are possible during heavy rainfall. Large accumulations of macroalgae (seaweed) can occur at the water edge; bathing near large seaweed amounts is discouraged due to potential toxin formation in decaying seaweed and bacterial survival from UV protection. Short-term pollution from sewage system overflow occurs 0–1 times per year, typically lasting a maximum of 3 days after heavy rainfall. Glass shards, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur.
