South of Kastrup Lystbådehavn is a bathing area located immediately south of the southern harbour pier. The seabed consists of stone and sand. Access to the area is via the harbour promenade opposite the kayak club, where bathing steps have been installed. The water current generally flows northward.

Water Quality

Water is classified as Excellent quality. Classification is performed annually after the bathing season ends (1 June – 1 September), based on statistical analysis of bathing water samples collected during the season and the three previous years. Water samples are taken 20 times during the bathing season, exceeding the directive's minimum requirement of 4 samples.

Risks

Cyanobacteria blooms can occur, typically after periods of heavy rainfall with nutrient washout followed by warm weather. Signs include discoloured water, foam formation, and dead animals. Toxins can cause headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhea on contact or ingestion. Large quantities of macroalgae (seaweed) can occur; bathing is not recommended near significant amounts due to potential toxin production in decomposing algae and bacterial protection from UV light. Short-term pollution may occur during heavy rainfall due to sewer system overflow, typically lasting a maximum of 3 days. Glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur.
